Todd Whittaker — NCAA Division III soccer player at Trinity University, placed by Upper 90 College

The Journey

Todd Whittaker's story is one of the most remarkable in Upper 90 College history – an Australian goalkeeper from Goulburn, NSW, who went to the United States and became one of the most decorated academic and athletic performers in NCAA Division III soccer. At 6'9", Todd possessed the physical presence of an elite keeper. Placed at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas – one of the consistently top-ranked D3 programs in America – Todd arrived as an 18-year-old from a small regional town and proceeded to anchor the Tigers' goal for four seasons. Trinity University is the gold standard of NCAA Division III men's soccer, regularly competing for national championships. Todd stood between the sticks for the Tigers across multiple NCAA Tournament campaigns, making decisive saves that helped Trinity advance through the bracket. In his senior year, he made four crucial saves in a 3-0 NCAA first-round victory over Whitworth – and Trinity went on to reach the national quarterfinals. Todd's greatest honour came at the conclusion of his senior season when he was named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American – awarded to the best all-round student-athletes in NCAA Division III men's soccer. He was also twice named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List, maintaining standards that mirrored his on-field excellence.

Challenges Overcome

Moving from Goulburn, NSW – a regional city – to San Antonio, Texas, to compete at one of America's most academically rigorous small universities was a significant transition. Performing at national-championship level in goal while meeting Trinity's high academic standards required extraordinary discipline across four years.
