The Journey
Lachlan Wilkinson is the younger brother of Connor Wilkinson (Mercyhurst) – and the third member of the remarkable Wilkinson family from Terrigal, NSW, to compete in US college soccer through the Upper 90 College pathway. Lachlan initially studied at Medaille College before transferring to St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) in Sparkill, New York – an NCAA Division II program in a highly competitive New York environment. As a junior at STAC in 2018/19, Lachlan was a prolific forward, making 15 starts across 17 games and scoring 4 goals with 2 assists for 10 points on the season, including a game-winning goal. He fired 50 shots across the season (25 on goal), reflecting the all-action attacking style that made him such a threat. The Wilkinson family story is a compelling showcase of the Upper 90 pathway working across a family: Connor at Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania and Lachlan at STAC in New York, both competing at the NCAA D2 level simultaneously – a testament to the talent that the Central Coast of NSW produces. Lachlan was a Marketing major who brought the same drive to the classroom as he did to the pitch.
Challenges Overcome
Transferring from Medaille to STAC and immediately stepping into a starting role as a forward required Lachlan to prove himself all over again. Completing his college career in the competitive New York D2 environment demonstrated the resilience of the entire Wilkinson family.
