Izzy Stein — NCAA Division I soccer player at Long Island University, placed by Upper 90 College

The Journey

Izzy Stein is one of Upper 90 College’s proudest current stories – a Sydney-born midfielder from Manly’s Northern Beaches who has become a team leader and four-year contributor at Long Island University in the Northeast Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Growing up in Manly, NSW, Izzy starred for Manly United FC, winning the Golden Boot for most goals across all of the club’s women’s teams in both 2019 and 2020. She was also School Captain at Stella Maris College in 2021 – a reflection of a leadership quality that has followed her throughout her career. Off the field, she volunteered with the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, held her Bronze Medallion in Australian Surf Lifesaving, and maintained Academic Excellence Awards for top 10% performance across six consecutive years. At LIU in Brooklyn, New York, Izzy made her collegiate debut in 2022 and grew steadily across four seasons. In 2023 she scored her first collegiate goal in the NEC opener and added three assists across 15 appearances. By 2024, she had earned the team captaincy – starting all 16 matches and scoring a game-tying goal against Mercyhurst. Her career totals include 58 appearances, 5 goals, and 7 assists in the NEC’s competitive D1 environment. A Film major completing her senior year, Izzy embodies the full Upper 90 vision: elite student-athlete, community leader, and genuine D1 performer who has made the most of every opportunity her US college pathway provided.

Challenges Overcome

Competing in the NEC at the NCAA D1 level from her freshman year required rapid adaptation. Building from a substitute role in 2022 to a team captain starting all 16 games in 2024 was a journey of consistent development and leadership.
