The Journey
Matilda Boyle’s journey to NCAA Division II soccer is a story of ambition, adaptability, and making the most of every opportunity – a Perth-born forward who made the leap to the highest level of US college soccer before finding her home in the South Atlantic Conference at Wingate University. Growing up in Perth, Western Australia, Matilda was identified by Upper 90 College as a forward with the speed, technique, and goal-scoring instinct to thrive at the college level. Her initial placement was at Long Island University (NCAA D1) in New York – a bold starting point that demonstrated the ambition she and Upper 90 brought to her placement process. After her time at LIU, Matilda transferred to Wingate University in North Carolina, where she found the perfect environment in the South Atlantic Conference of NCAA Division II. At Wingate, she immediately contributed offensively – scoring goals including one in a dominant performance against Barton College, and adding assists in SAC victories throughout the 2025 season. Wingate’s women’s soccer program is one of the most respected in the SAC, regularly competing in the NCAA D2 Tournament. Matilda’s goals and assists have been key parts of a team that finished 11-5-4 and earned an NCAA D2 Tournament berth in her debut Wingate season. Her story captures everything Upper 90 College stands for: placing athletes at the right level and watching them thrive.
Challenges Overcome
Transferring from a D1 environment at LIU to a new program at Wingate required a fresh start and the resilience to prove herself all over again. Adapting to the South Atlantic Conference’s physical style of play while establishing herself as a forward in a new system showed Matilda’s character.
Achievements
NCAA D2 Tournament appearance with Wingate (2025 season). 11-5-4 record in debut Wingate season. Scored and assisted in SAC victories across the 2025 season. Previous D1 experience at Long Island University. Perth, WA representative in US college soccer.
