The Journey
Aron Pavey’s story is one that resonates with many Upper 90 College clients – a Sydney-born defender with the talent and determination to compete at the NCAA Division I level, who backed himself to make it happen across multiple college programs. Growing up in Sydney, Aron was placed by Upper 90 College in the US college system and initially attended Merrimack College in Massachusetts in 2016 – a competitive D2 program. After establishing himself at Merrimack, Aron made the ambitious move to transfer to Long Island University (LIU Post) in New York, stepping up to the NCAA Division I level in the NEC. At LIU, Aron appeared in competitive NEC games as a defender, making his D1 debut and contributing to a program playing against the likes of Old Dominion and VCU. His journey from Sydney to D1 college soccer in New York via the Massachusetts college circuit is a testament to the persistence that defines the best Upper 90 alumni. Since graduating, Aron has built a career in law enforcement with the Weston Police Department – demonstrating that the discipline and dedication forged through the US college athletics pathway translates directly to professional excellence beyond sport.
Challenges Overcome
Transferring from D2 at Merrimack to D1 at LIU required enormous belief and technical development. Starting over at a new program as a transfer and earning playing time at the D1 level showed the resilience that has defined Aron’s life both in sport and in his career since.
