The Journey
Agastya Dharmaraj's story is a powerful example of what the Upper 90 College network can do for international student athletes beyond the Australian market. Originally from India, Agastya came through Upper 90's international placement pathway and was placed at Buffalo State University — an NCAA Division III program in Buffalo, New York — where he became a valued member of the Bengal squad. Navigating the US college process as an international student athlete without the traditional Australian pathway presented unique challenges. Academic admissions requirements, eligibility filings, visa coordination and the cultural transition all required expert management — exactly the kind of support the Upper 90 network provides. Agastya's placement at Buffalo State demonstrates the breadth of Upper 90 College's reach. NCAA Division III is one of the most academically respected tiers of US college athletics, offering a genuine balance of competitive soccer and elite education. For international athletes with strong academic profiles and genuine footballing ability, D3 represents an outstanding pathway. His journey from Asia to the snowbelt of upstate New York is a testament to what's possible when the right match is made between athlete and program.
Challenges Overcome
As an international student athlete from outside Australia, Agastya faced the full complexity of US college admissions — visa processing, NCAA eligibility, academic credit recognition and cultural adjustment — all without the familiar Australian footballing infrastructure. Upper 90 managed the end-to-end process to ensure his transition was seamless.
