Full Athletic Scholarship – NCAA Division I

Vincent Giannini — NCAA Division I soccer player at Bowling Green State University, placed by Upper 90 College

The Journey

Vincent Giannini is one of Upper 90 College's most academically and athletically accomplished alumni – a Sydney-born midfielder who earned a full student-athlete scholarship to Bowling Green State University (BGSU), competing in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) at the NCAA Division I level. Vincent's pedigree was exceptional from the outset. Growing up in Sydney, he trained with Sydney Olympic FC, Marconi Stallions, Sutherland Sharks, and Rockdale City Suns, earned selection into the FFA Australian Junior Socceroos, was named an AFC Asian All-Star representative, gained entry to the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) on a soccer scholarship, and was selected into the Australian U17 National Team training squad and Australian U19 Schoolboy squad. With a profile like that, Upper 90 College founder John Stevanja knew Vincent was capable of competing at the highest collegiate level. Placed at BGSU in the MAC Conference – one of the premier NCAA D1 conferences in the Midwest – Vincent became part of a program competing against the likes of Penn State, Kentucky, and Akron. In 2016, his sophomore season, Vincent scored the Falcons' first goal of the year (a game-winner against IUPUI) and followed up with a two-assist performance against Appalachian State. He was named to the Academic All-MAC Team with a 3.814 GPA in economics. Vincent graduated from BGSU and went on to a career in financial services, where he works as a Product Manager in Business Lending. His combination of athletic excellence, academic achievement, and professional success embodies the Upper 90 pathway at its best.

Challenges Overcome

Competing in the MAC Conference at the NCAA Division I level – one of the most physically and tactically demanding environments in US college soccer – as a lightweight midfielder from Sydney required enormous growth. Balancing a rigorous economics degree with D1 training loads while maintaining a 3.8+ GPA was testament to Vincent's exceptional character.
