Julia De Angelis — NCAA Division I soccer player at Indiana University, placed by Upper 90 College

The Journey

Julia De Angelis brought one of the most decorated Australian junior football resumes to the Upper 90 College program – a Canberra-based midfielder who had already won the Westfield W-League championship with Canberra United and earned selection in the Australian U20 Women's National Team before setting foot on an American college campus. Her list of junior accolades was remarkable: 2014 and 2015 Canberra United W-League Rising Star Award, 2014 Westfield W-League Championship winner, 2014 The Women's Game Newcomer of the Season, 2014 ACT Women's Premier League All-Star, 2012 U15 National Championships All-Star. She also represented Australia at the Asian Cup Qualifiers in the Philippines and toured South Korea with the U17 Women's National Team. Placed by Upper 90 College at Indiana University in the Big Ten Conference – one of the most competitive in NCAA Division I women's soccer – Julia made her collegiate debut against SMU in September 2016, going on to appear in 15 games and make 12 starts in her freshman year. She recorded her first assist against JMU, demonstrating immediately that her technical quality translated seamlessly to the American game. Julia's story represents the upper end of what Australian women's football can produce – players who arrive in the US with genuine national team pedigree and thrive in the toughest collegiate environments.

Challenges Overcome

Transitioning from the W-League environment and Australian national teams to the Big Ten Conference at Indiana University was a significant step. The physicality and tactical demands of D1 soccer in America required adaptation, but Julia's elite background equipped her well for the challenge.
