The Journey
Asher Light’s journey to Yeshiva University is one of perseverance, adaptability, and a willingness to take the unconventional path to find the right college fit. Growing up in Canberra, Australia (Dickson), Asher developed his football through the ACT pathway before Upper 90 College identified him as a player with the quality to compete in the US. His initial college journey took him through the NJCAA ranks – playing at Norco College in California and later at USC Sumter – where he built his game and proved himself in the American college environment. After his JUCO journey, Asher earned the opportunity to step up to NCAA Division III at Yeshiva University in New York City – home of the Maccabees. At 6'1", Asher brings athleticism, work rate, and the technical foundation of his Australian development to a Yeshiva program that competes in the Skyline Conference. In his first season of collegiate soccer at Yeshiva (2025), Asher immediately showed his quality – starting all nine games he appeared in and recording an assist, marking himself as a key contributor in his debut D3 season. His journey from Canberra to New York City, via JUCO campuses in California and South Carolina, is a compelling story of a player who backed himself and found his pathway.
Challenges Overcome
Navigating multiple college environments across different states and levels – from Norco in California to USC Sumter in South Carolina to Yeshiva in New York City – required enormous adaptability and persistence. Each move was an opportunity to grow, and Asher embraced every challenge.
